Robert Sinclair & Son was established in 1869, situated at Congalton Gardens, North Berwick on the east coast of Scotland. The family business began with growing a large variety of fruit within the confines of the walled gardens which are still standing to this day. Originally our fresh fruit and vegetables were transported by horse and cart two miles to the Drem train station. Via the train our fruit and vegetables were delivered to Edinburgh’s Waverley Market, located near the Waverley Station which was open 6 days a week.

Robert Sinclair & Son continued the growing of fruit until after WWII, in the 1960’s the business evolved to include the growing of 150 acres of vegetables including 2 acres of intensive glasshouse production.

Robert Sinclair & Son remains a family run business which has seen itself in the past twenty years, concentrating on the production of leeks, supplying the Glasgow wholesale market and our own local customers which include restaurants and hotels. In the last three years our family company has incorporated the growing of strawberries into it’s business which continues to see us branching out to the Borders, Lothian’s and Central belt of Scotland.

We are Assured Produce Accredited. What does this mean? The objective of the Assured Produce Scheme is to address the concerns and needs of consumers, retailers, processors and growers for safe food of good quality at affordable prices. As Robert Sinclair & Son are Assured Produce Accredited producing crops in accordance with the standards allows us to sell produce to any supermarket or processor.
